Thursday's Thankfulness

I'm thankful for a mother's love and the lengths she will go for her child.
On the news this morning I saw a story about a young boy, Fabien, diagnosed with cancer at 11 years old. Through his treatments his doctors told his mother, Danielle, that he needed lots of calories. The doctors said they didn’t care if Fabien ate french fries, McDonald’s hamburgers and junk food as long as he got calories. That logic seemed absurd to his mother. She knew that for young cancer patients undergoing the rigors of chemo, “Every bite has to count.” The young cancer patients needed the strength to keep up with their treatment, and she saw that eating well should be an essential strategy. Danielle desperately wanted to feed her son but through nutritious foods, not junk food. Through trial and error she experimented with recipes that her son would eat while giving him the nutrition he needed.

Fabien was victorious in the battle against cancer although it took a long time for his body to become strong again.  His mother played a major factor in that rebuilding process by taking control of his nutrition. Danielle has written a cookbook, Happily Hungry, to help families with a child dealing with cancer. What a wonderful testimony of a mother’s love to her child.
