Day 43

It’s an INVESTMENT
A couple months ago, a friend of ours was visiting with me about his granddaughter and how he wished they’d move back closer to home. I asked him if he thought his daughter and husband would have another baby and he answered, “Not until A.B. is in school, daycare is just too expensive to have two children in it at once.” We then talked about how sad it was that our times have become so different than ‘when we were kids’. We talked about how I keep Jaxon while his mommy and daddy work and he said that Jess was so lucky to have me be able to do that. We then laughed about how much energy a two year old little boy has and how this ‘ol Grammy is pooped by the end of the day sometimes. J My friend, in all his wisdom, said something that I’ve found to sum it up perfectly. He said,“It’s an investment, Renae”  Yes! That’s exactly what it is! On days when my vision gets cloudy, I find myself being very grateful for the part I play in this investment.
So what about investing in ourself? In our health? Shouldn’t that be the most important investment of all?  The next question is: Where do I begin? The answer to that will depend on where you are right now. I think it’s very easy for people to become so overwhelmed at even the prospect of change, that they just throw up their hands and say “Just forget it – I’ll never be able to do this”. To that I would say, b-r-e-a-t-h-e. J Be patient – start small – start slow. Choose one thing you want to change in the way you and your family eat. Maybe it’s to stop drinking pop, or to make two meals from scratch every week, or maybe it’s separating yourself from the crowd and not giving your children snacks that are full of chemicals produced in a science lab.  Choose something and start there.

Remember, “The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.” John Bingham

  1. Yes, I am extremely lucky to have you here to help SO MUCH! I really don't try to take your for granted, but I can't imagine Jaxon not having both you and dad in his life as much as he has you now. It would be totally different for him...sad to think about how little you would have seen him compared to how much you see him now if you wouldn't have moved here.
It is an investment - I am excited to have this baby and get back on a healthier diet. When I am pregnant I try to eat well for the baby, but I really do throw my hands up and say "who cares" when I am pregnant because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. When I gain 15 pounds in the first 6 weeks of being pregnant and changed absolutely nothing in the way I eat, there is no reason to fret over an eating plan when it is just the way I am when I am pregnant!
