Day 77

Yeah! I made bread – a double batch actually! Boo! The dough didn’t rise. I have no idea why it didn’t raise, I’m assuming the yeast wasn’t good but I looked at the expiration date and it isn’t even close. I used the same recipe I always do but for some reason, nothing. After pouting over both bowls on non-rising dough, I stood there and wondered how I could salvage it. I just have a hard time throwing out good food! I decided to roll it out and make pizza crusts. I’m going to stick them in the freezer and make some pizza soon and see how it works. We tasted one crust after baking and it has a great wheat flavor, just flat! I think once I add some sauce, cheese, and veggies, it will make a good pizza crust. Needless to say, I will have enough pizza crusts for a while J  So now I need to go back to town and get some more yeast and try it again!
I feel like I’m slowing getting back on track with my meals. Last night we had stir fry and brown rice and it was delicious. Really hit the spot! Breakfast is homemade granola with milk and a sliced apple. Lunch will be leftover stir fry and for supper I’m making chicken and dumplings or chicken and noodles. Can’t decide which. It will probably depend on how much time I have. We haven’t had noodles for quite a while, so I’m shooting for that. Katie will be here visiting for a few days and I told her she should take a ‘challenge’ of eating only REAL food while she’s here. She’s not so sure about that. J Might be an interesting visit for her. Ha! The good thing is, I don’t have a lot of ‘junk’ in the house so she might not have a choice. J

  1. Found you through Real Food Wednesday. I'm enjoying reading through your journey. I wanted to pass along a suggestion for you:

SAF yeast - worth every penny! I buy it by the 1-lb sackful (like you can find here on Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/35oq3d3 ) I keep my in the freezer, but in the 3 years I've had my current sack, it has not declined in usefulness at all. I used to be throwing out unused packets of yeast all the time, because they'd stop working (or die). Since I discovered SAF, I've never had a problem with the yeast.
