There really is no comparison when it comes to fresh vs store bought. It’s the same with refried beans. Homemade refried beans are light years better than the canned stuff! I’m sharing a recipe with you so you can give them a try yourself!
1 Onion, peeled and quartered
2 cups Dry Pinto Beans, rinsed
Fresh Jalapeno or other hot pepper, seeded and chopped
2 cloves Garlic, minced
1 tsp Sea Salt
1 tsp Black Pepper
1 Pinch of Cumin
6 cups Water
*Combine all ingredients in crockpot.  * Cook on high for 8 hours or overnight.  *Remove bigger onion chunks and drain excess liquid. If desired, save excess liquid until the final product is desired consistency.   * Mash remaining beans with a potato masher and wa la! You have refried beans.
Our kids will be home this weekend to celebrate Braylon’s 1st birthday. I think we’ll have taco salads, rice, and these beans! And I’m guessing we’ll break out our homemade salsa as well. J
*Thought for the day*
What we leave in our children is far more important than we leave to them.
