It is officially December which means Christmas is approaching very quickly. It also means that we will all be enjoying more than the usual cookies, pies, candies, etc. For many it's also a time to try out a new recipe. (Have you ever noticed that people share recipes for 219 different kinds of cookies but rarely do you see a new recipe for corn? ha!) I think one of the best gifts you can give is something homemade; whether it be a food or a craft. There's that little something special when you know someone took the time out of their busy schedule to think of you. A plate of assorted homemade muffins would hit the spot for that friend at work or the person who always greets you with a smile, even on the bad days. :) Use your imagination; pumpkin, zucchini, lemon poppy seed or blueberry muffins would be a great start to the day.

My daughter's favorite muffin recipe is French Breakfast Puffs.

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
*Combine and set aside

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
pinch of salt
*Mix together

1 egg - beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup melted butter
*Mix together and then add to flour mixture

3 Tbsp melted butter - for dipping

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Immediately dip tops of muffins into the 3 Tbsp melted butter then into the sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Makes 12 muffins

Remember, when you make your own 'treats' you control exactly what ingredients are included. Yes, some may have a hefty dose of sugar but at least you're not adding those sugar substitutes that are created in a scientific lab.
